Peoria offers an array of cultural educational opportunities through its many museums. A $100 million, 6.8 acre development called Museum Square is being planned (completion scheduled for 2009). Located along the Riverfront, it will house the Peoria Riverfront Museum, The Center of Art, History, Science and Achievement and the Caterpillar Visitor Center. The 110,000 square foot museum will feature interactive displays, planetarium and imaginarium.

See the world’s largest solar system model

Don’t miss the Lakeview Museum for the Arts and Sciences – designated a Smithsonian Affiliate – the largest museum in Illinois (outside of Chicago).

The Lakeview Museum of Arts and Sciences features a renowned planetarium complete with the world’s largest solar system model. Jupiter, as the model is called, is a unique model of our Sun and its nine planets, in which both size and distance are represented on the same scale. In addition to this celestial model, the facility offers thousands of exhibits relating to science and nature, along with a state-of-the-art planetarium projection facility.

Get into art; it’s easy

The Peoria Art Guild is the oldest community arts center in Illinois. Exhibiting artwork from local, regional, national and international artists, the Guild offers classes, special workshops and seminars for all ages. They seek to educate children and adults alike.
Every year the Guild puts on the Art Fair which is rated one of the best professional art fairs in the country and named one of the nation’s Top 100 Events. It features works by Picasso and Jackson Pollack to name a few.
