Located in Fulton County, Illinois, Canton holds the honor of being the largest city in the county and as being the local hub of activity. You will never become bored of life in Canton. Canton, Illinois was founded by settler Isaac Swan in 1825. He gave the settlement the name “ Canton” because he believed the location was geographically opposed to Canton, China. Though Mr. Swan was incorrect, the prosperous city of Canton today would make its founder proud. For residents, there are plenty of thing to do, including historical points of interest, parks, trails, conservation and wildlife areas. Two places all outdoor loving residents and visitors should observe are the Anderson Lake Conservation Area as well as Snakeden Hollow State Fish and Wildlife Area.
