Chillicothe is located on the Illinois River in Peoria County just 15 minutes north of Peoria and is part of the Peoria Metropolitan Statistical Area. Chillicothe offers the advantages of a small community such as an excellent school district, yet Chillicothe also has the advantage of the cultural opportunities that are available in a metropolitan area.

Situated on the northern edge of the city, Chillicothe Recreational Area Ltd. boasts 'primitive' campsites for outdoor enthusiasts. Four clear lakes offer swimming, scuba and boating areas. Sandy beaches are ideal for picnics, sunbathing, bocce ball and sand volleyball. Located in the heart of the community, Pearce Community Center provides aerobics, weight and fitness rooms, banquet facilities, an indoor swimming pool for various aquatic activities as well as special programs for senior citizens.
